  • Dr. Jaspal S. Mayell

    Past President Relief Committee of Greater New York
    Jaspal Singh Mayell was born in 1929 in Sialkot (then part of India).  He did his B.Sc (Hons) and MS (Tech) in India.  He worked for Bhakra Dam in India.  He married Parkash Kaur Kapoor in 1955.  They have two children and four grandchildren.  He came to the USA in 1957 and did a Ph.D in Chemistry from the University of Texas, Austin in 1961.  Since 1961 he has settled in Stamford, CT.  He worked for American Cyanamid and did research on Fuel Cells.  Most of his working life was spent in pharmaceutical research for DuPont and Purdue Pharma.  He retired at the age of 70 and was a consultant for two years.

    Mayell is the founding member of the Relief Committee of Greater New York.  He served as President for 28 years.  Dr. Mayell is also the founding member of the Sikh Cultural Society of New York in 1963, also known as the Richmond Hill Gurdwara in Queens, NY.

    Mayell has written a book, “Universality of the Sikh Religion.”  He stressed the importance of the religion in day to day problems.  His book got many good reviews from people like Khushwant Singh, Jerald Barrier, Tarlochan Singh and Ajay Banga.

     

  • Dr. Maan Singh Saluja

    President Relief Committee of Greater New York
    Dr. Maan S. Saluja was born in Jhelum(now in Pakistan). After the partition of India in 1947, his family settled in Kanpur, UP.

    Dr. Saluja did his MBBS, DCH and MD (Pediatrics) from GSVM Medical College. Kanpur. He got married to  Dr. Iqbal Kaur in 1965. They have three children and seven grand Children.

    He came to USA in 1966.  After finishing his training in Pediatrics, he became Fellow Of American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP). He started his private practice in 1976.

    Since he came to this country, he is involved in different religious and cultural organizations. He is Ex- vice president of  Plainview Gurdwara, NY.

    He is Ex-Chairman of Board of Trustees of Mata Sahib Kaur Gurdwara, Glen Cove, NY.

    In 1995, he arranged a gala night to raise funds for Relief Committee.

    He was Chairman of Cultural Affairs of  International Punjabi Society, NY chapter and arranged very successful concerts of singers like Malkit Singh and Jassi.

    He has been member of Relief Committee since its inception and  Vice President for many years. He was elected President of RC in January 2013.

  • Charanjeet S. Jassal

    Joint Treasurer Relief Committee of Greater New York
    Charanjeet, often referred to as “CJ” Jassal was born in New Delhi India and moved to the United States at the age of 5.  CJ completed all of his education in the United States and currently holds a BS in Chemistry, MS in Pharmaceutics, an MBA in Strategy and Operations and an MS in Project Management.  Additionally, he is also recognized by the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Agent.  CJ serves as an adjunct professor at the University of New Haven, in CT.  He has author many papers on analytical chemistry and regulatory sciences.  Recently, CJ was invited as a key podium speaker in management and development of New Chemical Entities (NCE’s) and pharmaceuticals in Dublin, Ireland. He resides in Westport, CT with his wife and two children.

    CJ Jassal joined the Relief Committee of Greater New York under the guidance of Dr. Jaspal Mayell in 2006.  He currently serves as the Jt. Treasurer for the organization.

  • Dr. Tarvinder Bir S. Buxi

    Dr. Tarvinder Bir S. Buxi is member at large for the Relief Committee of Greater New York.  He is Director of CT and MRI at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi.  He received his MD from the Government Medical College, Patiala.  He is married to Dr. Gurdeep Kaur and they have one son.

    He has delivered lectures on various aspects of CT and MRI in almost all the leading medical institutions and CME programs in India and abroad since 1983.  He has several national and international publications to his credit.  He is also Editor of Imaging Today, a quarterly publication on CT and MRI.

    While studying MBBS, his class was assigned a project to help and uplift the lives of very poor and down trodden villagers of Barbadi, Vidharba (now in Maharashtra).  He worked in the Christian Association of Social Action (CASA) during the floods of 1977.  He also worked for Sikh Charitable Institutions to help victims of 1984 riots.  Dr. Buxi helps in smooth functioning of the projects for the Relief Committee in India.
